Steven Reker is an artists whose performances, songs, installations, and choreography encourage a reimagining of meaning, pleasure, and space. His work often explores the physicality of sound, staged poetic imagery, and the relationships between environment and self. He has presented his work at The Kitchen, BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music), Lincoln Center’s American Songbook, New York Live Arts, Baryshnikov Arts Center, Museum of Arts and Design, and many other venues and performing arts centers in the United States. He has collaborated or worked as a composer / performer / choreographer with artists Robert Wilson, David Byrne, Miranda July, Jodi Melnick, Bill T. Jones, Yasuko Yokoshi, and Annie-B Parson. His new band, Muscle Memory, performs regularly in and out of New York.
Reker choreographs and movement directs music videos--most recently for Dirty Projectors, Fleet Foxes, Tigue, and People Get Ready.
